Barcolana 2023
Barcolana 2023. For all sea and sailing enthusiasts, for those who do not want to miss a unique spectacle in the world, the appointment takes place in Trieste, every year, on the second Sunday of October. It is the Barcolana, the international sailing regatta now in its 55th edition: a magical mix of competitive competition and ‘pop’ sailing celebration that transforms Trieste into Europe’s sailing capital. A 13-nautical mile course in the heart of the gulf of Trieste with the finish line positioned in front of the magnificent setting of Piazza Unità d’Italia.
The start of the Barcolana 2023 is set at 10.30 a.m. and the line is positioned between Barcola and Miramare; it proceeds for 210 degrees, for 4.3 nautical miles, until it reaches the first buoy, then follows a 0.90 mile disengagement, for 332 degrees. From Buoy 2 to Buoy 3, off Miramare Castle, sail 4 miles, then back towards Barcola, along the coast, for 2.3 miles. Off the Lighthouse of Victory begins the final phase of the regatta, which leads the crews to the finish line: they sail for 160 degrees until they reach, after a mile and a half, the Old Harbour Breakwater, where, opposite Piazza dell’Unità, the finish line is positioned.
Barcolana 2023 is not only the world’s largest regatta, but also a fantastic container that welcomes the different facets of the sailing world. From the Barcolana Young, the two-day regatta dedicated to the Optimist class, to the Barcolana Classic, the regatta dedicated to vintage, classic and spirit of tradition boats; and also Barcolana Nuota, Barcolana Fun and the Barcolana By Night, a regatta that becomes a spectacle just a few steps from land.
