Trieste

Trieste, a border city with Slovenia, located on the beautiful gulf of the same name, has been a crossroads for trade between the peoples of the Mediterranean and those of central and northern Europe since ancient times. Its name derives from Tergeste, from pre-Roman times meaning market. Strongly influenced by the various populations that have occupied it over time, Trieste is a cosmopolitan city, rich in historical buildings, among which the beautiful Miramare Castle stands out a short distance from the centre.
